Kojima Productions has stated that the upcoming Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid: Rising, will not use Metal Gear Solid 4's engine. Since Rising will be multiplatform (PS3, PC, and XBox 360), Kojima Productions will be making a brand new engine to fit the console changes.
Despite some earlier comments from Metal Gear Solid fans, Kojima Productions has said that the new engine being built for multiplatform development won't hurt the game. They've even mentioned that it could potentially look better than Metal Gear Solid 4.

agreed. but in my opinion, since Rising is coming to the 360 too, the graphics/gameplay will be the same as MGS4 at the most.
